Getting access to S&box

Hello, cookie here. Once again to give you some info Yesterday i got access to S&box Garry newman's new project, it is kind of like garry's mod his popular mod that everyone on the internet knows and loves. S&box is basically a new tool used to create games with the new source 2 engine, Source 1â„¢ was an engine used by the best game company in my opinion Valve to make some of the best games in the industry, like portal 1 and 2, half life 2, TF2 and Left for dead 1 and 2. Lots of two's. Source 2 has always been an enigma the only games that used it for a time was dota 2. But in 2020 valve released Half life Alyx, a spin off taking place a while before half life 2. Half life alyx is beautiful and looks so good, but source 2 didn't really have any tools to use the engine, there was source 2 hammer but nothing large. That was until Garry newman asked for source 2 and made this project with his team at Facepunch studio Let me give you some info on how the tool is.

  1. The tool has a more unity look to it with it's UI, but it doesn't have the boring graphics of unity but the realistic type graphics of unreal 5
  2. It uses C# the same language as unity and this is welcome thing because learning C++ the language source 1â„¢ and 2 use i believe would have been hell. There is also a no code option which is always welcome.
  3. S&box reminds me of roblox, only difference is that S&box doesn't use child labor for their games
  4. S&box also may some day get support for exporting your games and selling them on steam, this is a distant idea though that garry still needs to discuss with the higher ups at valve. Let me preface this

YOU CANNOT MAKE S&BOX GAMES WITH VALVE ASSETS

this is something i have to say because people do believe they can just use valve's assets because it's source 2 This happened to TF2 Source 2, a fan recreation of tf2, it was DMCA'D by valve and was removed from S&box. Garry newman explains it in this tweet "I think while it’s maybe out of character for Valve to take down fan projects like this, it’s hardly surprising when you have their entire game uploaded. I somehow don’t think the "old Valve" would have let anyone port Half-Life to another engine and host it all publicly either.

S&box doesn’t have a license to use Valve’s content, only the engine. It’s not a mod, it’s not gmod. We didn’t want to commit a chunk of profit so early in development when we don’t even know what the final product will look like.

Amper did a really great job porting and making this all work. Sadly it was going to all be broken next week with the Scene System update, so at least this saves them the job of updating to be compatible."

S&box should be used for oringial games, not ports Anyways i have to go now and test some more in S&box, good bye for now
